01

The batter puts their own wicket down with bat or body while playing a shot or setting off, under the Laws.

A batter is out hit wicket when their bat or body dislodges a bail while they are playing a stroke or setting off for a run. The bowler is credited with the wicket.

Write "hw" with the bowler's name. A bail knocked off when the ball is dead, or without the batter playing a stroke, is not the same thing, so check with the umpire.

Questions scorers actually ask

01 Who gets the wicket for a hit wicket?
The bowler.
02 Is a batter hit wicket if the bail falls while they turn?
Only if they dislodged it while playing or running. The umpire decides.
