Economy rate is the number of runs a bowler gives away per over. It is calculated from runs conceded, including wides and no-balls, divided by overs bowled.
A low economy with few wickets is often a good spell, because it restricted the scoring. Read it alongside the wickets and the overs.
Match questions
Questions scorers actually ask
- 01 Do byes count against economy?
- No. Byes and leg-byes are not charged to the bowler.
- 02 Is a low economy always good?
- Usually, but a bowler who bowls many dot balls with no wickets may be defensive. Read it with the wickets.
