A bye is a run taken when the ball passes both the bat and the batter's body, and the batters run. It usually means the wicket-keeper missed the ball or it went past without touching anything.
Byes are legal balls, so they count toward the six balls of the over, but they are not charged to the bowler or credited to the batter.
Match questions
Questions scorers actually ask
- 01 Are byes charged to the bowler?
- No. They are extras, so the bowler’s analysis is unaffected.
- 02 Is a ball that crosses the rope as a bye a boundary?
- It is four byes, recorded as an extra, not four off the bat.
