01

A batter who leaves the field because of injury or illness retires hurt. That is not a dismissal, and the batter can return to bat later, when the captain allows.

The scorer records the retirement with the score and the time, and writes the return when the batter comes back to the crease.

Questions scorers actually ask

01 Is a retired hurt batter out?
No. They are not out and can return.
02 Who decides when a retired hurt batter returns?
The batting captain.
